Compassion, love, illness and home security systems
Posted under security by adminA compassionate caring for patients with life limiting illness is a relatively new concept of health care especially in the US. I am a staunch supporter of hospice and palliative care. The goal of hospice care is not to cure but to bring about a quality of life for the remaining days of the life of the patient. It is a holistic care that takes into account the physical, spiritual and psycho-social needs of the patient and his/herfamily through a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses, social workers.
Why I am very passionate about this? It is because of my father who has Alzheimer’s disease. Given that condition he needs all the support, care and love that I could give. A local hospice has provided with the help and trainings in how to manage my dad whom I love so much. In one of their trainings, I learned the importance of having Home Security Systems in our house. That meant having a emergency button, even all the necessary sensors (smoke, gas, temperature sensors) to aid my dad and me.
The regular visits by the hospice care team to me and my dad have allowed friendship to grow between us, eventually creating an environment where free discussions of issues on family care. We would discuss about so many things including the importance of DIY Security Systems especially for my case. Heeding their advice beforehand, I have set up a security and safety system at home. That will ensure that despite my dad’s illness, I can still provide him the best care and love that I could give.
